LATEST NEWS :  Afrisco certification has been accredited by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, IFOAM

IFOAM is the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements.  It is the international umbrella body for organic agriculture (some of you have probably looked at their website, www.ifoam.org).  What is great about the IFOAM norms, to which our own standard has to comply, is that they are constantly updated by the members, so it is organic farmers and certifiers and retailers and any other members who make the changes, not governments.  Almost all countries and certifiers around the world use the IFOAM norms when developing their own.

At the same time, we have moved our ISO65 accreditation to IFOAM, since it is easier, and also financially advantageous, to do the two at the same time, so we have dropped our ISO65 accreditation with SANAS.   And thirdly, IFOAM (or rather, its accreditation body IOAS, the International Organic Accreditation Service) has checked that our Afrisco standard is equivalent to the EU standard, so it will inform the European authorities this year, and so we expect that by the end of the year our certified clients will be able to export to Europe and other countries which require the EU standards.

From now onwards, our certified clients will also be able, if they wish, to have an additional logo on their products which indicates IFOAM accreditation (like the one on our home page).  We will be the only certifier with offices in South Africa who can offer this.
